Today, the U.S. Labor Department reported employers added an impressive 943,000 jobs in July, exceeding experts’ predictions of 860,000 new jobs, and even revised the previous two months’ job gains upward by 119,000. The report also found the unemployment rate dropped sharply to 5.4%, as “the number of people who reported they had jobs surged by 1 million.” This marks the fastest monthly job growth in almost a year.
This isn’t a coincidence. Many of the job gains occurred in local governments, the hospitality industry, and restaurants, all of which received critical relief from the American Rescue Plan thanks to Democrats in Congress refusing to let Republicans stand in the way.
“House Democrats delivered real relief with the American Rescue Plan that’s creating jobs, crushing unemployment, and helping millions of hard-working families and businesses get back on their feet even faster than predicted,” said DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre. “While House Republicans embraced extremism over reality, and voted against strengthening vaccine rollouts, supporting small businesses, and raising wages, Democrats passed legislation that’s helping the American people and our economy build back better.”
