As the nation celebrates 49 years since Roe v. Wade gave women the constitutional right to an abortion, Republicans like Peter Meijer are still trying to take our nation backwards and control women’s decisions even as over two thirds of Michigan voters want Roe v. Wade kept in place.
From voting against legislation to protect Michiganders from attacks on their abortion rights, to joining extreme anti-choice Republicans on an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, Meijer has placed himself on the wrong side of history.
A strong majority of Americans support Roe, yet Meijer has refused to stand up to the nearly 600 dangerous Republican efforts introduced this past year to control women’s bodies and take away their freedoms.
The truth is, if Meijer had his way, 36 million women across the country could have their constitutionally-secured rights stripped away from them.
