Nevada Republicans’ Only Option After Tonight’s Debate: Gridlock and Obstruction Party
Promising nothing but obstruction is a losing case for Hardy and Tarkanian
In recent days, Republicans, recognizing that Donald Trump has basically no chance of winning, have started openly talking about doing nothing but blocking progress on important issues before Congress. The starkest example of this came this week when Senator John McCain promised not to allow a vote on any of President Clinton’s Supreme Court nominees.
Without the ability to promise action, Nevada congressional candidates Congressman Tea Party Cresent Hardy and self-proclaimed Tea Party radical Danny Tarkanian can only promise obstruction.
“Faced with a collapsing presidential candidate, I would not want to be in Cresent Hardy’s or Danny Tarkanian’s shoes, unable to offer voters anything but more gridlock,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “Refusing to govern is not government, and voters will punish Hardy and Tarkanian for promising nothing but obstruction. ‘Send me to Washington to do nothing’ is not a winning campaign slogan.”
Both Danny Tarkanian and Cresent Hardy are proponents of obstruction:
- Referring to Republicans compromising with Democrats, Tarkanian said he was “disgusted at what’s happened with our Republican Party.”
- Tarkanian agreed with a radio host that Republicans should not work with Democrats, and should tell Democrats “to get out of our way.”
- Hardy voted against a bipartisan budget agreement that avoided a catastrophic default.
- Hardy voted to defund Planned Parenthood—a partisan ploy that could have led to a government shutdown.
- Hardy wanted to “move forward” with impeaching President Obama.
