With just a week until Election Day, Derek Merrin is sticking to his anti-abortion extremism after refusing to say that he would oppose a national abortion ban – even when asked three times.
SHOT: Derek Merrin failed to answer whether he would “vote no on a national abortion ban,” saying, “I’d want to see the bill.”
CHASER: In the Ohio State House, Merrin shepherded a six-week abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest, as well as a total ban that could be punishable by life in prison for women and children as young as thirteen and would require doctors to reimplant ectopic pregnancies.
REMINDER: Merrin was hand-picked by far-right Speaker Mike Johnson, who has pioneered the Life at Conception Act, a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the woman.
DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“Derek Merrin can’t hide his dangerous anti-abortion extremism. Northwest Ohioans know that no matter what lies he spins, Merrin would support a national abortion ban in Congress – and that’s why they will reject him at the polls next Tuesday.”
