Yet New York Republicans Protected Him for Months
Today, the House Ethics Committee released findings from its investigation into a litany of alleged ethical and criminal violations by George Santos, confirming what we already know: serial liar Santos has no business representing New Yorkers in Congress.
The report found “substantial evidence” that Santos:
-
“Knowingly caused his campaign committee to file false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission.”
-
“Used campaign funds for personal purposes.”
-
“Engaged in fraudulent conduct in connection with RedStone Strategies LLC.”
-
“Engaged in knowing and willful violations of the Ethics in Government Act as it relates to his Financial Disclosure (FD) Statements filed with the House.”
-
“Brought severe discredit upon the House.”
As a reminder, Santos already faces 23 federal charges for shady financial schemes, and in the past two months, both his former campaign fundraiser and former treasurer pleaded guilty to federal crimes related to his 2022 campaign.
Despite his dishonest – and publicly known – track record, Santos’ fellow vulnerable New York Republicans Nick LaLota, Anthony D’Esposito, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams purposefully stalled a vote to expel their serial liar colleague for months – and then tried to cover it up with a failed, last minute expulsion effort in a Speaker-less House.
DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“Today’s damning report confirms what we knew all along: at the expense of workers and families across Nassau and Queens Counties, spineless New York Republicans protected and knowingly stalled the expulsion of their criminally-indicted campaign donor, Grifter George Santos.”
