New DCCC Billboard in NY-17 Declares Mike Lawler As “The Congressman Who Stole Health Care”

DCCC calls out vulnerable Republican Mike Lawler ahead of the holidays for the GOP health care crisis

Today, the DCCC is launching a new billboard campaign holding vulnerable Republican Mike Lawler accountable for soaring health insurance costs being unleashed on hardworking New Yorkers ahead of the holiday season.

For months, Lawler has made empty promises to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, but has refused to sign on to a common-sense proposal to extend the credits for three years. Polling consistently shows Americans want the tax credits extended and that Republicans will be blamed if they expire.

REMINDERLawler has repeatedly called the ACA “a disaster” and cast a key vote for Trump’s Big, Ugly Law, which included the largest cut to Medicaid in American history to fund massive tax breaks for billionaires.

Hospitals, nursing homes, and community-based health clinics are at-risk of shutting down thanks to these cuts, with some Hudson Valley facilities already laying off workers and cutting critical programs.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Mike Lawler is going full ‘grinch’ with cruel cuts to health care and his refusal to deliver lower costs for hardworking New Yorkers. The Republican health care crisis will be the defining issue in NY-17 ahead of the 2026 midterms, and the DCCC will hold Lawler accountable for helping create it.”
