First reported by Bangor Daily News, Congressman Jared Golden today announced that he will seek re-election in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. As a key member of the DCCC’s Frontline program, Golden’s reelection campaign is critical to helping Democrats win back the House majority in 2026.
Golden, a Marine Corps veteran and battle-tested leader in Congress, has built a reputation for putting Mainers first—delivering real results on lowering costs, protecting Medicare and Social Security, securing millions in infrastructure funding, and expanding access to mental health services for veterans.
Maine’s 2nd Congressional District is the most pro-Trump district currently represented by a Democrat in Congress.
Despite the challenging political terrain, Golden has repeatedly built the broad, bipartisan coalition needed to win this seat, and he remains the only Democrat in the country to have flipped and held a Trump-won district for four consecutive terms.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Jared Golden has spent his career delivering for Mainers—whether it’s cutting costs, defending Social Security, or standing up for veterans. Paul LePage, on the other hand, left behind a legacy of chaos and corruption. Maine voters have already rejected LePage’s extremism once, and they’ll do it again in 2026.”

Bangor Daily News: Jared Golden will run for reelection in Maine’s 2nd District in 2026
-
U.S. Rep. Jared Golden said Tuesday he will run for a fifth term in Maine’s 2nd District next year, declining a run for governor and setting up a potential race with former Gov. Paul LePage.
-
Golden is on course for a high-profile matchup with LePage, a combative Republican who led Maine from 2011 to 2019 and launched his comeback bid this month.
-
Golden’s district has backed President Donald Trump three times, and both national parties view it as key to determining control of the House.
-
In a statement, Golden said while he “considered many options for how best to continue serving the people of Maine, I have decided to run for reelection because the surest way to restore balance in Washington is for Democrats to win back the House of Representatives.”
-
“While the election is still 18 months away and I remain focused on my responsibilities to my constituents and my family, I also know the path to the majority runs through Maine,” Golden said. “And I am going to do what it takes to make sure no one like Paul LePage blusters his way into Congress.”
-
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, and other Democratic lawmakers in leadership positions joined state lawmakers, union leaders and others in endorsing Golden in a news release from the congressman’s campaign.
-
“Jared’s dedication to representing all of his constituents — no matter their party affiliation — makes him uniquely suited to once again win one of the toughest seats in the country for Democrats to hold,” read a statement from Jeffries and three other leaders.
-
Golden supporters argue he has represented the diverse views of his constituents. He has also received praise from groups within his party’s coalition for his more progressive stances on labor issues, abortion rights and campaign finance.
