New DCCC Poll Shows GOP Gerrymandered Texas Seat Slipping Away from Republicans

Eight days out, in a seat that Republicans gerrymandered, Texas’ 9th Congressional District is a dead heat. A new internal DCCC Analytics poll finds Democrat Leticia Gutierrez within one point of Republican Alex Mealer, 47% to 48%, as Trump’s approval falls to 17 points underwater in a district he won by 20 in 2024.

DCCC Spokesperson Madison Andrus:
“Texas Republicans attempted to steal this seat and, with eight days to go, it’s blowing up in their faces. Trump is underwater in a district he carried by 20, and voters are turning on Californian Alex Mealer and the Republican agenda that’s driving up costs from gas to groceries. Voters are ready to reject their cynical power-grab attempts  and elect Democrats like Leticia Gutierrez.”

Key Finding from the Poll:

  • Leticia Gutierrez is statistically tied with Mealer, 47-48, with 5% undecided.
  • Despite the district backing Trump by 20 points in 2024, his approval rating is now 17 points underwater (37-54).
  • James Talarico leads Ken Paxton 50% to 45% for Senate, and Gina Hinojosa leads Greg Abbott 50% to 46% for governor.
