| The Denver Post Editorial Board enthusiastically endorsed Democrat Manny Rutinel over Republican lapdog Gabe Evans today. The Post cited Rutinel’s track record as “an effective lawmaker” who fights for working people and is willing to break with his party – including to protect Colorado’s farmers and ranchers.
The Post also blasted Gabe Evans for being “in lockstep with his party.” Evans repeatedly voted for the Iran War, supports tariffs that are squeezing Colorado families and small businesses, and “insists no changes were needed to how ICE is operating” despite the deaths of two U.S. citizens earlier this year.
DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Manny Rutinel is running a people-first campaign that’s rooted in his commitment to fight for working Coloradans. Meanwhile, Gabe Evans consistently puts his party loyalty first, voting 100% with Donald Trump to hike costs on families, drag us into another forever war in Iran, and threaten public safety. The choice for voters is clear.”

Denver Post: Vote Manny Rutinel for Congress in CD 8 (Opinion)
- Rutinel has proven himself to be an effective lawmaker at the Colorado General Assembly, and voters should send him to Congress to fight for Coloradans.
- His example is the groundwork he helped lay in 2024 to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit when the state’s revenue allows under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights.
- “Because we passed that bill alongside the family affordability child tax credit, that I cosponsored, we cut child poverty by 40% overnight in Colorado. We just decided to do it, and we did it,” Rutinel said. “I think that’s the kind of leadership we need in Congress right now. Folks who understand the struggles of working people deep in their bones and who have a track record of fighting for them.”
- Evans didn’t just support the One Big Beautiful Bill; he also supports the vast majority of President Donald Trump’s agenda. We have not seen [Evans] make a single tradeoff vote that hasn’t been in lockstep with his party.
- Rutinel gave us examples of two bills he supported in Colorado that Democrats wanted to squash – the right to repair for farmers and a ban on foreign ownership of farmland.
- Evans voted three times against War Powers Resolutions that would have stopped Trump’s disastrous war in Iran. He told us the president was right to engage in a bombing campaign against Iran because the nation has a stockpile of highly enriched uranium that could easily become weapons-grade.
- Rutinel said he would vote for the War Powers Resolution stopping a war that has no end in sight.
- Evans said he supports Trump’s aggressive bargaining strategies, including tariffs… the tariffs are also hurting U.S. consumers and straining relations with our closest ally. Evans should speak out against Trump’s tariff war, not enable it.
- Rutinel said that “stopping these chaotic and corrupt tariff policies” would be one of his top priorities.
- Evans has also done nothing to prevent Trump’s deportation of hundreds of thousands of people, most of whom have no criminal record and many of whom actually had a legal status similar to the one Evans said he supports – asylum-based work permits, deferred action or temporary protected status.
- Evans insisted that no changes were needed to how ICE is operating under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
- Rutinel says he supports reforming ICE to stop its frequent violations of laws that grant everyone in America, whether they are here legally or illegally, a right to due process. Rutinel would support legislation forcing ICE to once again focus on deporting known criminals but would stop short of eliminating ICE.
- The final straw in Evans’ gross obsequiousness came a few hours after The Denver Post editorial board met with him. Evans told us in the meeting that he supports Ukraine.
- A few hours later, Trump thumbed his nose at Congress and waived the sanctions imposed by the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act.
- Evans has remained silent on the issue.
