Led by Rep. Bynum, Democrats work to lower costs while House Republicans cheerlead cost-raising tariffs
Battleground House Democrats are leading the fight to prioritize efforts in Congress that would lower costs for working Americans.
Led by Rep. Janelle Bynum and backed by fellow freshmen Frontline Reps. Adam Gray, John Mannion, Kristen McDonald Rivet, Dave Min, Nellie Pou, Josh Riley, Derek Tran, Eugene Vindman, and George Whitesides, House Democrats are pushing Republicans to bring forward legislation that “lowers costs for working families, creates good-paying jobs, and improves the quality of life for all Americans.”
“Families across our congressional districts are struggling with the rising cost of essentials including groceries, healthcare, childcare, housing, and education,” the Members wrote in the letter. “Congress has the opportunity—and responsibility—to enact meaningful policies that directly respond to the pressing issues facing American families. We believe that proposals addressing affordability, workforce development, infrastructure investments, and enhanced health care access should be priorities for this legislative session.”
DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre:
“House Republicans have refused to put forward a single bill to lower costs – rather, they’ve done the exact opposite and pushed legislation that sticks working families with higher prices. That’s why more and more voters are trusting battleground House Democrats to lead the fight to lower costs.”

The Commerce Department said inflation cooled this week, with consumer prices increasing just 2.3 percent in March from a year earlier, down from 2.7 percent in February. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core prices rose 2.6 percent compared with a year ago, below February’s 3 percent.
-
However, many economists expect that inflation will rise again in the wake of President Trump’s global tariffs.

Johnson is in the midst of working to pass Trump’s legislative agenda, which Democrats allege will harm average Americans.
