NEW: Gabe Evans Refuses to Return Donations From Alleged Domestic Abuser Max Miller

Miller has been accused of breaking his toddler’s collarbone, putting a gun to his wife’s head

Gabe Evans has some explaining to do.

As allegations against Rep. Max Miller continue to dominate headlines – including claims that Miller broke his toddler’s collarbone and pulled a gun on his wife – the Colorado Times Recorder reports that Gabe Evans apparently has no plans to return the $5,000 he got from Miller.

Evans has a clear track record of taking money from people accused of putting women and girls in harm’s way. Evans has taken – and refused to return – at least $16,000 from alleged abusers, harassers, and predators, including:

• $10,000 from Tony Gonzales, who admitted to having an affair with a subordinate who later took her own life by lighting herself on fire. Gonzales has also been accused of sexually harassing a second staffer.

• $5,000 from Max Miller, who has been accused of physically abusing his wife and toddler. Prior to Evans accepting Miller’s money, Miller had been accused of engaging in an “abusive” relationship with his ex-girlfriend, pushing a teenage girl down stairs, and being on drugs. He has also been charged with assault, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, and more.

• $1,000 from Chuck Edwards, the subject of a recent ethics investigation that found he sexually harassed multiple young female staffers.

Colorado Times Recorder: Gabe Evans Won’t Say if He’ll Return Donations from Disgraced Republican

• According to data from the Federal Election Commission (FEC), U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO) received $5,000 in donations from the political action committee tied to the congressman at the heart of a growing domestic violence scandal. 

• Rep. Max Miller’s (R-OH) has been accused by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, of holding a gun to her head and throwing hot water at her. Moreno’s attorney is seeking a restraining order against Miller for himself, alleging in a filing last month that the congressman physically accosted him outside the courtroom and made disparaging remarks about his fiancée’s looks.

• According to Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), Miller’s former brother-in-law, Miller once refused to turn over a favorite stuffed animal of the couple’s daughter during a custody exchange. In a CNN interview last week, Miller couldn’t say when he last used illegal drugs and dodged responsibility for posting documents meant to exonerate him that reportedly included a partially nude photo of his toddler.

• Neither Evans’ reelection campaign nor his congressional press office responded to an email request for comment on the allegations against Miller or on whether he plans to return the donations. According to Politico, of the Republicans who received donations from Miller, only Rep. Brad Finstad’s (R-MN) campaign has returned the money.

• Miller isn’t the only disgraced Republican to have donated to Evans’ reelection. On Sept. 16, 2024, Evans received $1,000 from Rep. Chuck Edwards’ (R-NC) Blue Ridge Victory PAC. Edwards, who had been endorsed by President Donald Trump, announced last week that he would serve out his term in Congress but would not seek a third term in the House. His decision came days after the House Ethics Committee recommended a censure following a probe that found “substantial reason to believe Representative Edwards violated House Rules related to sexual harassment and hostile workplaces.”

• In 2023 and 2024, Evans received $5,000 donations from the Honor Courage Commitment PAC affiliated with former Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), who admitted to having an affair with a married staffer who later died by self-immolation and then resigned rather than face a possible expulsion vote.
