A new analysis from the nonpartisan Urban Institute explains the substantial changes to America’s food system via Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill could force 22.3 million families to lose some or all of their food assistance, with some families losing an average of $146 per month.
For months, the so-called moderate House Republicans have shamelessly lied about wanting to protect food access. For example, three so-called moderates – Zach Nunn, Don Bacon, and Derrick Van Orden – went so far as to pretend to protect food assistance by introducing a phony bill that never got a vote. Instead, all three voted for the Big, Ugly Bill and every single cut it made to food assistance programs.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Food and grocery prices continue to rise, straining the budgets of everyday Americans, but so-called moderate Republicans voted to strip food assistance from millions anyway. Children, veterans, and people with disabilities will go hungry because House Republicans wanted to give their billionaire donors like Elon Musk a tax break. Shame on them.” |
