NEW: MAGA Jim Desmond Doubles Down on Support for Gutting Medi-Cal

Jim Desmond made it crystal clear that he has no plans to restore health care access to tens of thousands of hardworking people in CA-48 who are expected to lose Medi-Cal.

This week, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution opposing $1 trillion in federal Medicaid cuts and a $2.1 billion Medicaid funding freeze.

Jim Desmond was the lone vote against the resolution.

Then, he doubled down on false claims: “None of these people that need it are going to lose it.”

This is just the latest example of Desmond’s crusade against health care and food assistance: he previously voted against using county reserve funds to prevent service cuts, voted against another plan to respond to federal cuts to Medi-Cal and CalFresh, and has dismissed families’ very real concerns about these cuts as “politically-generated mania and hysteria.”

REMINDER: Retiring Darrell Issa was the deciding vote to gut health for 32,000 people in CA-48. Desmond has said Issa “set the bar for leadership in this district,” “I’m hoping to follow in his footsteps,” and “carry that forward.”

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“MAGA Jim Desmond has shown San Diego families exactly what they would get if he went to Congress: another cruel, rubber-stamp vote to rip away their health care. Desmond wants to hide away from voters and fall back on his ‘local record,’ but that record is already a disastrous deal for voters. Californians cannot afford another politician who will sacrifice their health care to prove his loyalty to Donald Trump.”
