A bombshell Politico investigation today revealed that two of Mike Lawler’s friends and political allies, Peter Giunta and Bobby Walker, were central figures in a vile GOP group chat filled with rape jokes, racist slurs, antisemitic hate, and violent rhetoric.
Giunta and Walker, the chair and vice chair of the New York State Young Republicans at the time, didn’t just fail to stop it — they were active participants in these disgusting conversations.
In his own messages, Giunta joked about sending people to the gas chamber, referred to Black people as “the watermelon people,” said he loves Hitler, and “was the most prominent voice in the chat spreading racist messages.”
Walker joked about rape being “epic,” tossed around the word “faggot,” made inappropriate comments about Chinese people and mocked POWs by saying he liked his heroes “not captured.”
But instead of taking accountability for their actions, Giunta claimed that the release of these messages is part of “a highly-coordinated year-long character assassination,” while Walker said the chat “may have been altered, taken out of context” and that the messages “were obtained and released in a way clearly intended to inflict harm.”
Let’s be clear: These people are Mike Lawler’s friends, political allies, and campaign surrogates. |
