NEW: “Oregon’s Female Governors All Endorse Janelle Bynum for Congress”

Barbara Roberts, Oregon’s First Female Governor: “I’m excited about the positive change Janelle will help create on behalf of our families in the halls of Congress”

Yesterday, all three of Oregon’s female governors — Tina Kotek, Barbara Roberts, and Kate Brown — endorsed Oregon State Representative Janelle Bynum to defeat Lori Chavez-DeRemer this November.

The governors praised Bynum’s bipartisan record, steadfast advocacy for Oregon’s working families, and deep roots in the district as a businesswoman and working mom of four.

Gov. Kotek had already announced her endorsement of Bynum last fall, calling her “a leader with the tenacity, compassion, and commitment to deliver real results for Oregon families.”

Bynum has already twice defeated Chavez-DeRemer in previous legislative races – and she’s ready to do it again this fall.

  • Rep. Janelle Bynum’s campaign announced Thursday that the Happy Valley Democrat has secured endorsements from all three of Oregon’s female governors, adding a wall of politically powerful women to her supporters as she looks to secure the Democratic nomination for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District.

  • Bynum twice defeated Chavez-DeRemer in legislative races covering a much smaller geography than the sprawling 5th District.

  • Flipping the seat from Republican control is a top priority for national Democrats as they work to take back the House of Representatives. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced last month it is backing Bynum in its high-intensity “Red to Blue” program, signaling that national House Democrats would provide her with money and other support.

  • Gov. Tina Kotek announced her endorsement of Bynum last fall, while the state’s two previous women governors, all Democrats, added their names to her list of backers Thursday.

  • Kotek praised Bynym’s bipartisan track record, the Oregon Capital Chronicle reported, amd called her “a leader with the tenacity, compassion and commitment to deliver real results for Oregon families.”

  • Oregon’s first female governor, Barbara Roberts, held office in the early 1990s.

  • “For years, Janelle has been fighting the good fight for families throughout this district in the state legislature and advocating for the needs of Oregon’s working families,” she said in a statement provided Thursday by the Bynum campaign. “I’m excited for the positive change Janelle will help create on behalf of our families in the halls of Congress.”

  • And former Gov. Kate Brown praised Bynum as a “career-long problem solver, businesswoman and working mom of four” in a statement provided by the Bynum campaign.

  • “It’s an honor and a privilege to be supported by Oregon’s three history-making women governors,” Bynum said in a statement. “Our movement is growing stronger by the day, and brings me faith that our coalition will defeat Lori Chavez-DeRemer.”

  • Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 168,509 to 144,273 in the district, according to voter registration as of this month.
