NEW: Philadelphia Inquirer Reports Green Party Candidate in PA-07 Voted for Trump as GPPA Disavows Him Publicly

Reporting shows Andrew Tupone is a former Republican candidate and registered GOP voter; his petition gatherers included a white nationalist

New reporting from The Philadelphia Inquirer directly implicates Republicans in a cynical ploy to prop up a sham ‘Green Party’ candidate in Pennsylvania’s 7th District because they know they’ll lose to firefighter Bob Brooks.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that:

  • ‘Green Party’ candidate Andrew Tupone was a registered Republican as recently as this year, and previously voted for Donald Trump. “Voter registration records show he changed his party affiliation from Republican.”
  • The Green Party of Pennsylvania disavows his candidacy. “‘It sounds a lot like somebody’s just fooling around and trying to use the Green Party name…’ said Tim Runkle, co-chair of the state party.”
  • An out-of-state white nationalist petitioned for Tupone to get on the ballot. “Colin McEvers, who gathered signatures for Tupone in Lehigh County, is a Republican candidate for the Maryland General Assembly who is also listed as the contact for a Maryland White Republican Council.”
  • Ryan Mackenzie and his campaign refused to deny their involvement. “Mackenzie’s campaign did not address that comment when asked about it Monday.”

REMINDER: FEC filings confirmed that Republicans lit nearly $2 million on fire in a failed attempt to meddle against Bob during the primary.

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“National Republicans already showed their hand and revealed just how much they fear firefighter Bob Brooks when they lit $1.7 million on fire in a failed effort to meddle against him in the Democratic primary. Now the evidence shows they are pushing another sinister plot to deceive Lehigh Valley voters because even their poll numbers show they can’t win a fair fight. Ryan Mackenzie refuses to deny his involvement or disavow this effort, which included a white-nationalist petition gatherer. That tells you everything you need to know.”
