NEW POLL: Americans Hold Trump and Republicans Responsible for Shutting Down the Government

With millions facing skyrocketing health care costs, House Republicans have been on vacation for 40. Straight. Days.

Americans are blaming Republicans and Donald Trump for shutting down the government by 14 points, according to a new poll from Navigator Research.

The growth is driven by Independent voters who have moved from +12 blaming Republicans a couple of weeks ago to now +23 blaming Republicans for shutting down the government.

It’s easy to see why the public is turning against Republicans and Trump. Donald Trump is not even in the country and Mike Johnson has canceled votes for 40 straight days in the House of Representatives, refusing to even meet with Democrats to negotiate a deal.

Because of that, the impression of Republicans in Congress on the shutdown has declined to -14.

In recent DCCC polling conducted across the House battlefield, which includes 45 districts that Donald Trump won in 2024, Republicans and Trump also received a majority of the blame.

This weekend, tens of millions of hardworking Americans are expected to face sticker shock during the open enrollment period on the Affordable Care Act, facing steep health care costs at a time when the cost of living is already through the roof.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Vulnerable House Republicans have fled from town after shutting down the government, leaving tens of millions of Americans to face skyrocketing health care costs due to their refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. Voters won’t forget their callousness next November.”
