NEW POLL: Michigan Voters Hate Trump’s Economy. Mike Bouchard Jr. and Robert Lulgjuraj Will Answer For It

Detroit News: “Pocketbook blowback from voters in battleground Michigan could portend a poor showing by Republicans in the pivotal 2026 midterm elections.”

A new poll from The Detroit News and WDIV-TV finds that Michigan voters hate Donald Trump’s economy – and spells trouble for Mike Bouchard Jr. and Robert Lulgjuraj, who’ve backed it every step of the way. Nearly “two-thirds of Michiganians said they are seeing their household costs increase” and almost twice as many voters gave Trump an “F” than “A” when grading his handling of the economy.

Key Takeaways:

  • “…64% of respondents said their household costs have gone up in the past year, with an overwhelming 82.5% of those individuals pointing to food and groceries as the budget category that is rising the most.”
  • “The survey found that 48% of respondents said Trump’s economic policies have made the national economy overall weaker, while 38% said his policies have made the economy stronger.”
  • “Asked to grade Trump on his handling of the economy, twice as many respondents gave the president an ‘F’ as gave him an ‘A.’”

REMINDER: “Michigan voters could play an outsized role in determining which party controls Congress during the final two years of Trump’s term as Democrats look to flip three U.S. House seats in the Great Lakes State.” Both Bouchard Jr. and Lulgjuraj will be forced to defend their support for Trump’s economy.

DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Michiganders are feeling the squeeze as prices skyrocket, and they know Washington Republicans are part of the problem. Mike Bouchard Jr. and Robert Lulgjuraj have fully backed Trump’s chaotic and expensive agenda that’s raised costs on Michigan families, and voters will hold them accountable next year.”
