Only 19 percent view Brownback favorably (66 unfavorable) – terrible news for close ally Kevin Yoder
The DCCC has released a new poll today that shows Jay Sidie within the margin of error (44-40) after trailing by 12 in October – demonstrating that Sidie has all the momentum heading into the final stretch of the campaign. The generic ballot has a Democrat beating a Republican 49% to 44%, showing a clear path for Sidie as more voters learn about the choice in this election. Despite being significantly outspent, Sidie only trails the incumbent by 4 points. The simple fact is that Yoder is well known but he is not well liked (35% favorable, 34% unfavorable). 57% have doubts that Yoder is acting independently rather than following the party line and only 30% have confidence that he puts the people of Kansas ahead of special interests.
Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump by 10 points (52-42%). The poll was conducted October 5-8 so it is important to note that most of the interviews were conducted before the video of Trump bragging about sexual assault was released, and his standing has eroded even further over the past few days. Potentially most damaging is Yoder’s deep connection to Governor Brownback’s disastrous policies. Brownback has a favorability rating of just 19% favorable to 66% unfavorable, including 54% very unfavorable. In case you haven’t seen it, Jay Sidie has been running an ad titled “Genesis” linking Yoder and Brownback on education cuts.
“To put it bluntly: Congressman Yoder is not well liked by his constituents and a solid majority of voters believe that he will put his political party and special interests ahead of Kansans,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “Yoder’s shameful embrace of Donald Trump and Governor Brownback has made his already shaky case for reelection even less credible. There’s no doubt that this is going to be a close race.”
