NEW REPORT: Valadao Cuts $90 Million from CA-22 Hospitals

A bombshell new report reveals the staggering cost of David Valadao’s deciding vote to gut Medicaid: nearly $90 million in estimated annual cuts to hospitals in CA-22.

Five hospitals in Valadao’s district alone would lose nearly $90 million annually as a result of the Medicaid cuts” – Sacramento Bee

That means fewer services, staffing cuts, and longer wait times for Central Valley families who already struggle to access care. From rural hospitals to community clinics, providers are bracing for a “financial tsunami” threatening care across the Valley – and Valadao is directly to blame.

Experts and health care providers from impacted hospitals are sounding the alarm

  • “In the Central Valley, Medi-Cal isn’t just a program, it’s the foundation of health care access for many families.” – Kiyoshi Tomono, executive for Adventist Health, one of the largest providers of Medi-Cal in Valadao’s district.
  • “It’s going to have ripple effects throughout the whole health care system.” – Hannah Orbach-Mandel, policy analyst for California Budget & Policy Center.
  • Tomono said Adventist Health, which has two hospitals and another portion of a campus in Valadao’s district… [has] growing concern about the long-term stability of rural providers stemming from the federal changes.
  • “These policy changes could have significant implications for patient access, hospital stability and the long-term sustainability of rural health care…” Tomono said.

CA-22 Hospitals impacted

  • Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Bakersfield, CA: $28 Million+
  • Kern Medical Center Bakersfield, CA: $24 Million+
  • Adventist Health Hanford, CA: $20 Million+
  • Sierra View Medical Center Porterville, CA: $8 Million+
  • Delano Regional Medical Center Delano, CA: $7 Million+

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser
“David Valadao cut nearly $90 million a year from Central Valley hospitals already on the brink. He is directly responsible for fewer doctors and nurses, longer wait times, and services on the chopping block for communities that can’t afford to lose them. Central Valley families, children, and seniors will pay the price, and they won’t forget his cruelty in November.”
