NEW YORK TIMES: Mike Lawler Repeatedly Called The Affordable Care Act “A Disaster”

Recent reporting details Lawler’s blatant hypocrisy as New Yorkers face skyrocketing health care costs

The New York Times reports that vulnerable New York Republican Mike Lawler has spent years railing against the Affordable Care Act, “repeatedly call[ing] it ‘a disaster.’”

For over a decade, Lawler has not only personally called the ACA an “absolute disaster” – he’s also called for Obamacare to be fully repealed while he was head of the New York Republican State Committee.

Now Lawler is trying to cover his tracks by pretending to support a temporary extension of ACA tax credits. The truth? Lawler openly admitted that he wants to repeal the ACA tax credits, stating he wants to “phase them out.”

Because of Lawler, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers are seeing their health care costs skyrocket during open enrollment, forcing some to make impossible choices between necessities or even forgo health insurance altogether.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Mike Lawler is so obsessed with gutting New Yorkers’ health care that he’s been railing against the ACA long before he stepped foot in Congress. Lawler can’t be trusted to protect voters’ health care, especially after he voted to gut Medicaid, shutter health clinics, slash health care jobs, and jack up premiums.”
