In his latest bizarre and dangerous move, RFK Jr. is now calling on the FDA to “review the regulations” around mifepristone, threatening women’s access to a proven safe and effective form of medication abortion used in nearly two-thirds of abortions nationwide. The renowned conspiracy theorist is basing his decision on a widely discredited “junk science report” from anti-abortion groups, which falsely claims mifepristone is harmful to women.
Despite this issue being already settled by this Supreme Court, far-right Republicans refuse to give up their relentless assault on reproductive freedoms. Just last week, House Republicans voted to slash Medicaid and decimate funding for reproductive health care providers.
Medication abortion is used for nearly 60% of abortions in Alaska, a state already struggling with pharmacy closures and staffing shortages, particularly in rural areas.
And Nick Begich? He’s notably silent.
As a reminder, we know exactly where Begich stands. He has stated that he opposes pharmacies’ ability to distribute mifepristone to patients, opposes public health programs providing infertility treatments like IVF, and doesn’t support the extension of Medicaid coverage even to treat cases of rape, incest, or where the life of the mother is at risk. He has also proudly stated that he supports a nationwide ban on abortion.
DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“It’s the same old story from Nick Begich so it’s no wonder he’s gone silent on his deeply unpopular positions. He’d rather fall in line to restrict Alaska women’s access to basic health care than focus on delivering results, bringing down costs, and improving lives in Congress. Give it up, Nick.”
