With 1.5 Million Reasons (Dollars!) Why She’s a Hypocrite, Washington Republicans’ Handpicked Candidate Nicole Malliotakis Fundraises Off Childish Insults of Bronze Star and Purple Heart Recipient
Today, the National Republican Campaign Committee stooped to a new low by attacking Congressman Max Rose, a veteran who has earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantryman Badge. Shortly after, their handpicked candidate, Nicole Malliotakis, was singing from the same sheet of music despite having 1.5 million reasons why this attack makes her a hypocrite, having accepted $1.5 million in public financing for her earlier mayoral bid.
It all started when the NRCC decided it was sound political strategy to attack the combat veteran Congressman because he voted for legislation that would get special interest money out of campaigns. The bill creates a public financing system that is paid for by penalties committed by corporate wrongdoers – something Nicole Malliotakis apparently opposes after taking $1.5 million in public financing for her failed mayoral campaign:
Not only is this fundraising strategy undignified, but it’s also immensely hypocritical. In her failed Mayoral bid, Nicole took $1.5 million in public matched funds:
But that was 2017…now that Nicole is swamp-endorsed, she’s singing a different tune. For her, fighting to get dark money out of politics isn’t a priority.
Sad.
“Max Rose is keeping his word and fighting to crack down on corruption in politics,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “Nicole Malliotakis is a hypocrite who took $1.5 million in taxpayer money for her last losing campaign and now wants to claim getting special interest money out of elections is a ‘disaster’ so she can suck up to the Washington Republicans who are directing her campaign.”
