As Americans commemorate the 49th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, abortion rights have never been more in peril.
Across the country, states are introducing and passing draconian abortion bans that terrorize those who provide abortions and allow random individuals to sue providers, clinicians, and anyone else who assists a woman in accessing an abortion.
And who is joining the charge? Republican candidates in swing-district NJ-07.
Just this month, NJ-07 Republican candidates state Sen. Tom Kean Jr. and Assemblyman Erik Peterson both voted against codifying the constitutional right to freedom of reproductive choice. Kean Jr. has even supported defunding Planned Parenthood. Another far-right candidate in the field, Phil Rizzo, has rallied against abortion rights, saying Roe v. Wade would be “overturned by God’s grace.”
A November 2021 Rutgers-Eagleton poll found that a majority of New Jerseyans support abortions rights and candidates who support and defend reproductive freedom.
James Singer, DCCC Spokesperson
“In their race to the right to win this contested primary, Kean Jr., Peterson, and Rizzo are linking arms with anti-abortion extremists across the country who are hell-bent on attacking reproductive rights and making it more difficult for women to get access to health care. Their extreme positions are out of step with New Jersey and threaten women and their families everywhere. “
