NJ-07 GOP Primary Field Votes Against Reproductive Choice

GOP primary field aligns with dangerous, anti-abortion radicals

This morning, the New Jersey Globe reported NJ-07 Republican candidates state Sen. Tom Kean. Jr. and Assemblyman Erik Peterson both voted against codifying the constitutional right to freedom of reproductive choice. As the votes were debated, another potential candidate in the field, Phil Rizzo, rallied against abortion rights outside, saying Roe v. Wade would be “overturned by God’s grace.”

Across the country, states are introducing and passing draconian abortion bans that terrorize those who provide abortions and allow random individuals to sue providers, clinicians, and anyone else who assists a woman in accessing an abortion.

A November 2021 Rutgers-Eagleton poll found that a majority of New Jerseyans support abortions rights and candidates who support and defend reproductive freedom.

This far-right primary field of Kean Jr., Peterson, and Rizzo doesn’t care what New Jerseyans think, only their far-right campaign donors and political allies.

James Singer, DCCC Spokesperson

“As states across the country pass dangerous abortion bans and the Supreme Court considers overturning Roe v. Wade, this GOP primary field’s votes and actions today make clear where they would stand if elected to Congress – with anti-abortion extremists across the country who are hell-bent on attacking reproductive rights and making it more difficult for women to get access to health care.”
