No Clear Frontrunner in Chaotic VA-07 Republican Primary

In VA-07, Republicans still don’t have a consensus candidate as the NRCC hedges their bets

Republicans are in disarray in the VA-07 primary.

Today the NRCC announced the addition of three more VA-07 candidates to their “On the Radar” list, proving that there’s still no Republican frontrunner in this district and all but guaranteeing that this bruising primary battle will drag into June. As Crystal Vanuch, Derrick Anderson, Bryce Reeves, and Yesli Vega all jockey to position themselves as the most extreme, far-right candidate in the race, they’ll continue to disqualify themselves as an option to Virginia voters this November.

Republicans are seeing the warning signs in their failure to back a strong candidate in VA-07. Crystal Vanuch recently “[declared] herself a front-runner in the competitive six-way race” after outraising all of her primary opponents, but reporting from the Washington Post shows that local Republicans agree no one is a consensus candidate:

“Still, Roday said he doesn’t think ‘anybody is the front-runner’ in the primary. Of the top Republican contenders to challenge Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D), no one candidate is clearly running away with the grass-roots fundraising lead.”

“Republicans are in disarray in Virginia,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “No matter which candidate makes it through this clown car primary in VA-07, they’ll be a losing choice for Virginians.”
