No Clear Frontrunner in Chaotic VA-10 Republican Primary

In VA-10, Republicans still don’t have a consensus candidate as the NRCC hedges their bets

Virginia Republicans are in disarray with just 23 days until their firehouse primary in VA-10.

Today the NRCC announced the addition of another VA-10 candidate to their “On the Radar” list, proving that there’s still no Republican frontrunner in this 11-candidate contest and all but guaranteeing a chaotic primary with no consensus candidate. The NRCC’s move to add another candidate to their list comes as a snub to Jeanine Lawson, who has been trying — and failing — to lead the pack.

Also notably left off the NRCC’s list were local favorite Caleb Max, the 24-year-old grandson of the former VA-10 representative Frank Wolf, and Brandon Michon, who reportedly received “encouragement from Youngkin’s team” to enter the race. Max recently won a straw poll conducted by the state GOP, but despite being an “early favorite” of Republicans on the ground, the NRCC refused to consider him a notable candidate in the race.

As the VA-10 candidates all jockey to position themselves as the most extreme, far-right candidate in the race, they’ll continue to disqualify themselves as an option to Virginia voters this November.

“Republicans are in disarray in Virginia,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “No matter which candidate makes it through this clown car primary in VA-10, they’ll be a losing choice for Virginians.
