Congressman John Mica has yet to lift a finger to urge Congress to step up for Puerto Rican families on the Island and here in Central Florida.
The ‘Do-Nothing’ Republican Congress has left town for Spring Break without taking action on Puerto Rico’s current financial crisis that could potentially sink the Island further into default and exacerbate an already dangerous Zika health crisis threatening 1 in 5 people on the Island. Mica continues to remain silent as House Republicans are set to miss the March 31st deadline set by Speaker Paul Ryan, putting yet another critical issue on hold.
Following Florida’s redistricting, John Mica’s Central Florida seat has become more competitive and diverse, a place where many Puerto Rican families now reside. Over 400,000 Puerto Ricans now reside in Orlando, as Florida begins to edge out New York as the state with the most Puerto Ricans.
“Puerto Rico is slipping further into default and John Mica is doing absolutely nothing to push the ‘Do-Nothing’ Republican Congress to take action,” said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “John Mica clearly doesn’t understand the new makeup of his district nor the families that live there. Central Florida is the home of so many hardworking Puerto Rican families that are worried about the future of Puerto Rico and it’s time for Mica to step up, listen to his constituents.”
