House Republicans promised voters they would lower prices, but now that they’ve been caught in their lie with costs skyrocketing across the country, their responses have become a “study in spin.”

See the ways vulnerable House Republicans are scrambling to deceive voters who have caught them in their broken promises:
- Mike Lawler said the war in Iran is “absolutely worth it” and that their constituents should take the rising prices on the chin.
- Tom Barrett, who warned Michigan families about higher gas prices during his campaign last cycle, dismissed a woman “who could only afford $14 of gas.”
- Derrick Van Orden lashed out at a constituent on X, calling them a hypocrite.
- Zach Nunn said Americans should “Grow a stronger spine.”
- David Valadao and Mariannette Miller-Meeks “have offered little detail on the issue” since running on lowering gas prices in 2024, as have María Elvira Salazar and Juan Ciscomani.
As House Republicans hide from and even insult their constituents for being concerned about rising gas prices, we will continue to hold them accountable for their broken promises.
DCCC Spokesperson Liam Buckley:
“House Republicans lied about lowering gas prices so they could keep their failed majority. Now, they’re lashing out at everyday Americans for daring to call them out on it. They’re the ones who should grow a spine — not the American people.”
