NRCC-Anointed Candidate Monica De La Cruz Gets Primary Challenger

Huge headaches await Kevin McCarthy and national Republicans as they brace for a bruising primary in TX-15

Kevin McCarthy and the NRCC have put all their eggs in Monica De La Cruz’s basket as their anointed Republican candidate in TX-15 — and it’s beginning to look like that decision will come back to bite them.

Today, a new Republican candidate announced his bid for the congressional seat in TX-15, setting up Monica De La Cruz for a bruising primary. The news is bound to create headaches for national Republicans, who have attempted to boost De La Cruz’s struggling campaign with early attention — despite her not being a “legit challenger.”

As the Republican candidates begin their race to rock bottom in TX-15, it’s clearer than ever that the only leadership the GOP has to offer South Texans is bitter division and extremist politics.

“It’s a rough Monday over at the NRCC headquarters,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “South Texans already rejected Monica De La Cruz’s toxic agenda and extremist views once before. A messy primary between candidates racing to prove they’re the most radical choice for voters is the last thing Texas Republicans need if they want to make inroads in this blue district.”
