NRCC Chief To House Republicans: Talk About Your Opposition To Abortion Rights And Your Specific Plans to Restrict Reproductive Freedoms

DCCC Response: Yes, please do.

After GOP party chief Donald Trump bragged about repealing Roe v. Wade, the NRCC Chair told Punchbowl News he is urging his colleagues to talk more about abortion.

“[Candidates] need to articulate their position to the voters,” Rep. Richard Hudson told Punchbowl. “Republicans don’t have a policy problem. We have a branding problem.”

What Hudson forgot: voters continue to reject GOP anti-abortion efforts, as evidenced in elections across the country from Ohio to Virginia to Wisconsin and numerous other states.

Vulnerable House Republicans have already taken steps to chip away at abortion care and punish abortion care providers this Congress. Now, inexplicably, the NRCC is begging its members to brag about these horrific and dangerous votes.

DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“House Republicans seem incapable of understanding that the public vehemently disagrees with their crusade to ban reproductive freedoms. If they think people need to hear more about their unpopular anti-abortion policies, go ahead. We’re confident voters will respond accordingly in November.”
