Katko forfeited legislative agenda to National Republicans in exchange for campaign assistance
As the NRCC continues to run ads on independence, they laughably highlight how Congressman John Katko secretly forfeited his ‘legislative agenda’ to Washington Republicans in exchange for campaign cash.
Earlier this year, the Washington Post reported that “Two dozen House Republicans [including John Katko] have agreed to privately detail their ‘legislative strategy’ to party operatives, promising to offer ‘political justifications’ for their goals in Congress.”
The story added, “The closely-held document offers a window into how much autonomy lawmakers often must forfeit to unelected Washington insiders.”
Marching in lockstep with Republicans is not new to Katko. According to CQ, he voted more than 80% of the time with his own party, and only 18% with President Obama – who won this district twice.
And speaking of so-called independence, John Katko still hasn’t disavowed Donald Trump’s dangerous and divisive candidacy – after telling voters that’d he “back” Trump as the party’s nominee earlier this year on local TV.
“It’s laughable that Washington Republicans are running ads attacking Colleen Deacon on independence. As soon as he stepped into Congress, Congressman John Katko secretly forfeited his agenda to Washington Republicans in exchange for campaign cash,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “Whether it’s submitting to Washington Republicans or failing to stand up to Donald Trump, Congressman John Katko is the saddest example of independence.”
