Albany politician Jack Martins ignores pleas from local Republicans to defend his vulnerable State Senate seat, runs for Congress anyway
Clearly the NRCC has no regard for the New York GOP, and the utter chaos they are causing by supporting Jack Martins in the Republican primary for New York’s 3rd congressional district.
With six Republicans either officially in the race or still exploring bids, the NRCC has still chosen to throw their weight behind Albany politician Jack Martins. Earlier today, Martins was added to the NRCC’s 2nd rollout of candidates named to the ‘Young Guns’ candidate support program.
Martins’ candidacy is putting national and local Republicans between a rock and a hard place.
The NY Daily News reported that local Republicans had pleaded with Martins not to vacate his vulnerable State Senate seat and potentially jeopardize Republican control of the New York’s State Senate. Martins ignored their please and decided to run for Congress anyway.
“Establishment Republicans have thrown their support behind yet another candidate in the NY-03 clown car. Albany politician Jack Martins’ candidacy, and the NRCC’s support, puts local Republicans in a politically awkward bind,” said Bryan Lesswing of the DCCC.
