NRCC RECRUITMENT FAIL: John James Breaks NRCC’s Heart After Very Long, Very Public, Courtship

Well, this is embarrassing.

For months the NRCC has aggressively – and very publicly – courted John James to run for the House, resulting in story after story (after story) about their desire for him to run. In fact, the NRCC was so desperate to get James to run that they even had President Trump make the ask to no avail. James may back Trump “2,000%”, but apparently not on this.

With James launching (another) losing Senate race this morning, House Republicans are back to square one in MI-11, having lost their only legitimate candidate. Meanwhile, Rep. Haley Stevens continues to deliver for Michigan, working to lower health care costs and promote manufacturing – all while listening to the concerns of Michiganders, holding eight town hall meetings and countless in-district events already.

This track record of delivering results for Michiganders – coupled with strong fundraising (a blistering $575,000 raised in the first quarter alone) puts Rep. Stevens in strong position for re-election.

“After months of public courting, John James’ decision to pass on a House run is a major blow for Republican hopes in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District,” said DCCC spokesperson Mike Gwin.

“While Washington Republicans scramble to find a candidate in this district, Haley Stevens is going to stay focused on delivering for Michigan families by working to lower the cost of health care, promote manufacturing, and get Michiganders the skills training they need for good-paying jobs. Might just be time for the NRCC to pack it in here.”

And boy are they sore about it on Twitter
