NRCC Sides Against Voters, Embraces End of Roe

While NRCC Chairman Emmer hides, his committee is fully embracing the unpopular news that Roe v Wade might soon be overturned

While Americans rallied across the nation to speak out against the leaked draft Supreme Court majority opinion that would strike down Roe v. Wade, the National Republican Congressional Committee made clear they side against the American people and a woman’s right to abortion access.

In a fundraising effort, the NRCC asked supporters to “stand right now and make an emergency pledge to fight for pro-life values,” and asked those who signed, “Will you chip in just $5 or more to DEFEND LIFE, PROTECT CONSERVATIVE JUDGES, and STOP THE FAR LEFT?”

So far, we’ve heard crickets from NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer on this devastating news. But the NRCC’s latest comments makes clear they disagree with the majority of Americans who want to see Roe stand, and instead side with extremists who want to strip away 50 years of abortion protections in all 50 states.

Here are four questions that every single Republican running for Congress must answer:

  • Do you agree with the Supreme Court’s leaked opinion that Roe should be struck down?

  • Where do you stand on exceptions – specifically instances of rape, incest, or harm to the woman?

  • Public polling continues to show that 80% of Americans overwhelmingly support access to safe, legal abortion and 70% of people don’t want Roe to be overturned. How do you justify standing against the vast majority of Americans and taking such a deeply unpopular position? Do you think that 80% of the American people are wrong?

  • What do you say to the women who are in fear right now, worried that they will lose protections that have been constitutionally guaranteed for 50 years?

While congressional Republicans are planning to ban abortion nationwide, voters are ready to reject extremist House Republicans who are on the wrong side of history.

DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre
“House Republicans are embracing a dangerous, backwards crusade to rip away women’s freedoms and threaten the livelihoods of millions of women and families. Voters won’t accept the extremist and harmful reality Republicans are fighting for.”
