NRCC Sounds The Alarm On Republican Fundraising

As the DCCC, Frontline members and Democratic House candidates continue raising unprecedented amounts of money, the NRCC is raising alarm bells about Republican fundraising…and lowering expectations about its own.

NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer said on Wednesday that House Republicans “need to get their act together and raise more money.” He also warned his members that the NRCC wouldn’t be able to fill the gap. The NRCC’s Deputy Executive Director underlined the points on Twitter Thursday.

The Hill:

The head of House Republicans’ campaign arm said Wednesday that GOP candidates need to rely less on the party’s national fundraising apparatus and more on their own fundraising, acknowledging the challenges facing Republican members.

“Our members need to get their act together and raise more money,” National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) said at a breakfast event hosted by the Republican-aligned Ripon Society.

“The individual campaigns need to raise more money. They cannot expect somebody else is going to do it for them, and they’re going to hear that from me when we come back after the break and we see all the final numbers,” he said.

Emmer’s admission comes amidst months of House Republican bragging about an impeachment fundraising bump and unwarranted claims that Republicans are going to flip the House.

Today, the DCCC expanded its battlefield after a record-breaking $125 million haul in 2019. While the NRCC has refused to release their full fourth quarter fundraising numbers, through November 2019 the DCCC has outraised them by $33 million. The DCCC also has an $18 million cash on hand advantage.

DCCC Spokesperson Robyn Patterson released the following statement:

Its embarrassing House Republicans have spent their time in Washington working on behalf of drug manufacturers to try and block landmark legislation to bring down the cost of pharmaceuticals, but STILL have nothing to show for their efforts. You’d think selling out your constituents would be more lucrative.”
