The NRCC’s Racist/Sexist/Classist/Nationally Promoted Candidate

This week, a nationally promoted candidate being touted as one of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s top “Young Guns” candidates has raised the bar for how many people he can offend in a 3-day span.

  • “Republican state lawmaker and congressional candidate Cresent Hardy blamed women, minorities and young voters for problems in the United States by electing President Barack Obama.” [Las Vegas Sun, 9/23/14]
  • “Can I say that without getting in trouble like Gov. Romney? The 47 percent is true. It’s bigger now.” [AP, 9/24/14]
  • “I didn’t think it was a winnable race…because I thought it was a minority district.” [Ralston Reports, 9/24/14]

“Greg Walden, John Boehner and the NRCC need to condemn their candidate’s incredibly offensive comments and drop him from their list of nationally promoted candidates immediately,” said Tyrone Gayle of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  “Right now, the NRCC is touting a man who blames ‘women, minorities, and young voters’ for our country’s problems, doubles down on Romney’s 47 percent comment, and seems to regularly say whatever racist thing comes to mind.  That’s simply unacceptable.”
