Today, Speaker Paul Ryan and House Republicans are planning a Groundhog Day celebration for the ages, with their vote tonight to once again undermine access to affordable health care coverage.
House Republicans’ Groundhog Day 2016 Bash by the numbers:
- 63: times the House GOP has voted to undermine the ACA
- 12: times they’ve held this vote attacking women’s health care in just the 114th Congress
- 22: million people who would lose health insurance coverage under this extreme reconciliation bill, according to CBO
- 2: the number of times we’ve been able to use our Groundhog Day Press Release™ this cycle, with some small modifications:

REPUBLICANS’ REPEAT OBSESSION VOLUME 55 63: BILL MURRAY EDITION
MONDAY Tuesday, FEBRUARY 2, 20156
“Today, House Republicans continues their Bill Murray-like quest of forcing history to repeat itself for the 55th 63rd time, as they begin debate on their dead-on-arrival repeal and replacement ACA bill. Republicans have been undeterred by the millions of Americans who now have access to quality and affordable healthcare, and are just trying to placate their rabid Tea Party base.
“Not even Bill Murray would be able to believe that Republicans are spending Groundhog Day trying to put insurance companies back in the drivers’ seat over consumers care – yet again,” said Matt Thornton of the DCCC. “Instead of focusing on middle class economics, Republicans are forcing history to repeat itself with their obsessive repeal efforts that are destined to fail.”
