In a press conference today, President Obama said in no uncertain terms that Donald Trump is “unfit to serve as president,” thanks to his attack on the Gold Star Khan family and the long list of utterly dangerous and un-American positions that Trump has previously staked out. What followed was a simple question, directed at Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Congressional Republicans, “What does this say about your party, that this is your standard-bearer?”
“There has to come a point in which you say, somebody who makes those kinds of statements doesn’t have the judgment, the temperament, the understanding to occupy the most powerful position in the world,” Obama continued.
Notably, the President concluded: “The alternative is that the entire party, the Republican Party, effectively endorses and validates the positions that are being articulated by Mr. Trump.”
“An age-old wisdom fits the state of national politics perfectly: Dime con quién andas, y te diré quién eres. Tell me who you walk with, and I’ll tell you who you are.
“President Obama is exactly right. If your Republican Member of Congress is supporting Donald Trump, we ask voters: What does that say about their leadership? Their character? Their values? If they won’t even stand up to Donald Trump, what makes you think they’ll stand up for you and your family?” said DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján.
