On Anniversary of ACA, the GOP Remains a Threat to PA Health Care

It’s the 12th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act being signed into law – it’s still under threat by Republicans.

Republican leadership in the House have tried in vain to repeal the ACA and have made repeal a priority if they win back control of Congress.

As the Pennsylvania Capital-Star wrote this morning, Does the GOP want to repeal Obamacare? Take them literally and seriously.

This would have a devastating impact in Pennsylvania:

  • 858,000 people in Pennsylvania would lose coverage

  • 5.3 million people in Pennsylvania with preexisting conditions could face higher premiums, face benefit exclusions, or be denied coverage altogether

  • Pennsylvania would lose $5.1 billion in federal funding for health coverage because the ruling would eliminate ACA funding for the marketplaces, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Program.

  • The tax revenue that funds the ACA’s expansion of health coverage would go back into the pockets of the wealthy, with millionaires receiving tax cuts averaging $46,000 each.

James Singer DCCC Spokesperson

“Republicans have made clear what their plan is for Americans’ health care: take it away.”
