Today marks the 51st anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, which Republicans were instrumental in overturning. Republicans continue working tirelessly to restrict abortion – an extremist position that Latinos broadly reject.
A recent poll of Latino voters found the majority of Latinos agree it is wrong to restrict abortion and make it illegal:
In the 118th Congress alone, House Republicans have passed four anti-abortion bills:
-
H.R. 26 – Legislation targeting doctors who perform abortions
-
H.R. 6914 – Targeting college students’ right to essential health care
-
H.R. 6918 – Allowing federal funds to target women who seek essential health care and spread misinformation
-
H.R. 2670 – Tried to block reproductive health care access for members of the armed services
These bans hurt Latina women and Latino families overall as close to 6.7 million Latinas (43% of all Latinas ages 15-49) live in 26 states that have banned or are likely to ban abortions.
DCCC Spokesperson, José Muñoz:
“The fight to protect abortion access is a fight to protect the freedoms of women to make decisions about their futures. Republican efforts to restrict abortion put Latino families in danger across the country, especially in states like Arizona, Florida, and Texas. Latino voters recognize the need to protect this freedom and reject efforts by Republicans to ban abortion nationally. This election we will continue to make clear for Latino voters how a Democratic majority will fight to enshrine these fundamental rights and freedoms.”
