On Social Security’s 91st Anniversary, House Republicans Are Still Plotting To Privatize It

After promising to protect Social Security, the Republican Trifecta has cut, gutted, and pushed a scheme to privatize this vital program”
A foundational cornerstone of America’s middle class, Social Security turns 91 today. For nearly a century, the program has been the ticket to financial security for millions of Americans who have earned their benefits through years of hard work, allowing them to retire with grace and dignity.

But House Republicans are hellbent on destroying it.

New reporting reveals that vulnerable Republicans across the battlefield have fallen in line behind far-right schemes to privatize Social Security — getting caught doing photo-ops with a far-right organization who’s been advocating for privatization for decades, effectively gutting Americans’ retirement security to benefit their Wall Street backers.

It’s no wonder the extreme right-wing organization ‘60 Plus Association’ is actively supporting House Republicans. Since Trump has returned to office, House Republicans and the Trump Administration’s have:

  • Voted for the Big, Ugly Law, which Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent admitted was a “backdoor for privatizing Social Security.”
  • According to the Chief Actuary, the Social Security trust fund is predicted to run out of money faster than previous estimates because of The Big, Ugly Law.

Social Security By The Numbers:

  • More than 73 million Americans receive Social Security.
  • 7.3 million receive Supplemental Security Income (disability benefits).
  • 63% of retirees rely on Social Security for at least half of their income.
  • Social Security lifts more than 16 million seniors out of poverty.
  • 79% of Americans say Social Security earned benefits shouldn’t be reduced in any way.

It is based on a basic American value: If you work hard, you should be able to earn enough to retire with dignity and peace of mind. Social Security benefits are earned, they belong to the American worker, and House Democrats will always fight to protect it. Republican attempts to privatize Social Security are just the latest broken promise they made to the American people — and it’s why they will lose in November.”
