On the 16th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement:
“The Affordable Care Act was a landmark law that delivered affordable health care for millions of Americans while also improving the quality of care people received across the board. The law ensured insurance companies could no longer deny coverage because of a pre-existing condition, provided free preventive care, allowed young people to stay on their parents’ plan, and capped annual out-of-pocket costs. History remembers that these benefits and protections were possible because of Democrats, while every single Republican in Congress opposed the ACA 16 years ago.
“Today’s anniversary is a reminder to the American people that only Democrats are fighting for affordable health care, while Republicans have been obsessed with repealing the ACA and creating a health care crisis that is ripping health care from millions, hiking up costs for everyone, shuttering rural hospitals, and decimating funding for life-saving medical research.
“The fight for affordable health care will be a defining issue of the midterms and the DCCC is making sure Republicans will be held accountable in November for their cruel agenda hurting hardworking American families.”
REMINDER: Public polling consistently shows the American people support the ACA and want Congress to expand access to affordable health care through policies such as extending the tax credits that Republicans have allowed to expire, leading to millions losing their health care and skyrocketing health care costs for everyone else. All cycle, the DCCC has been making sure voters know who is responsible for the health care crisis working families face today through a series of digital ads and billboards across the House battlefield. It’s clear that the unprecedented attack by House Republicans on health care will cost them the majority, and the DCCC will highlight their cruel, harmful agenda every day from now until election day.
