| On this day 62 years ago, America’s nutrition assistance program was signed into law, helping generations of Central Valley families and children afford healthy, nutritious meals. Today, David Valadao is working to dismantle that program.
In the year since Valadao and House Republicans voted to cut $187 billion from SNAP with their Big, Ugly Bill, over 330,000 Californians have already lost critical nutrition assistance, forcing them to decide between feeding their families or paying their bills.
Valadao cast the deciding vote to slash food assistance for more than 60,000 households in his own district – where 1 in 4 families rely on the program each month. While Valadao poses for photo ops with the very constituents he’s left struggling to feed their families, he says “he’s not sweating” the political fallout of his cruelty and it “won’t hurt [him] in November.”
