| On this day 62 years ago, America’s nutrition assistance program was signed into law, helping tens millions of American families and children afford healthy, nutritious meals. Today, House Republicans are working to dismantle that program.
In the year since House Republicans voted to cut $187 billion from SNAP with their Big, Ugly Bill, roughly 5 million Americans – including more than 1 million children – have lost critical nutrition assistance, forcing people to decide between feeding their families or paying their bills.
Last week, the DCCC launched mobile billboards across the country to hold vulnerable Republicans accountable for their cruel cuts to food aid.

Washington Post: Democrats target Republicans who voted for SNAP cuts with billboards
- About a year ago, cuts to the nation’s largest food assistance program went into effect as part of the Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill, affecting about 4.5 million Americans.
- On Wednesday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee plans to roll out mobile billboards targeting a handful of House Republicans in swing districts who voted for the cuts, accusing them of taking food off voters’ plates.
- The billboards are slated to travel to the districts of Reps. Juan Ciscomani (Arizona), Gabe Evans (Colorado), Mike Lawler (New York), Ryan Mackenzie (Pennsylvania) and Monica De La Cruz (Texas).

- In U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans’ (R-CO) congressional district, high demand has forced the Weld County Food Bank to cut back on how much food it gives to families in need. On top of that, the Republicans’ Big Beautiful Bill is sending more people to food banks — with even more expected to arrive at the doors of the Weld facility in the coming year.
- Republicans cut the food aid funding via their Big Beautiful Bill, passed last year, that — as the billboard also states — sliced $187 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also called food stamps.
- Evans, who represents a swing district widely considered key in the battle to control the U.S. House after next year’s midterm elections, has stood behind his vote for the Big Beautiful Bill.
