| On this day 62 years ago, America’s nutrition assistance program was signed into law, helping generations of Alaska families and children afford healthy, nutritious meals. Today, Nick Begich is working to dismantle that program.
Begich voted to cut $187 billion from SNAP with his Big, Ugly Bill – slashing food assistance for more than 28,000 households in Alaska, including 42% of households with seniors and nearly half of households with children reliant on the program. After forcing Alaskan families to decide between feeding their families or paying their bills, Begich called it “a transformative victory,” “a great bill for Alaska” and that he had “no doubt” about voting for it.
