As the candidates left the first debate stage in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, the DCCC released a new TV ad, “Remember,” which exposes rejected Congressman David Young’s vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act and do away with protections for people with pre-existing conditions. The ad will begin airing tomorrow in the Des Moines media market.
In 2017, during the height of the health care debate in Congress, David Young told Iowans that he would vote against his party’s health care repeal bill. Immediately afterwards, House Republicans’ Super PAC – the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) – very publicly threatened to pull its support from Young’s re-election bid and closed its field office in his district. At the time, Young’s spokesperson noted that “Young wouldn’t be swayed by any pressure from political leaders in Washington.” Yet weeks later, Young changed his vote and joined Washington Republicans in passing the AHCA – despite the fact that it would have stripped protections from Iowans with pre-existing conditions and allowed older Iowans to be charged more.
Of course, there is NO chance (then) Congressman Young’s change of heart was influenced by the money he took from (then) Speaker Ryan and his leadership PAC immediately before flipping his vote and betraying his (then) constituents.
“Congressman Young voted to allow insurance companies to gut protections for the hundreds of thousands of people in Iowa’s 3rd District with pre-existing conditions and to charge older Americans more for their health care. Iowans won’t ever send rejected Congressman David Young back to Washington,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren.
AD TRANSCRIPT:
NARRATOR: It’s been hard in Iowa.
So we’ve got to remember — when David Young was in Congress, he made it even harder on us.
Young voted to allow insurance companies to gut coverage for Iowans with pre-existing conditions, like asthma, diabetes, and cancer.
And Young voted to allow them to charge older Iowans more for their health care.
So why would we ever send David Young back — to Congress?
