On the Second Anniversary of Its Passage, the CHIPS and Science Act Continues to Deliver for the Middle Class – No Thanks to Brandon Williams

The CHIPS Act has created more than 50,000 good-paying jobs since 2022

Two years ago, the CHIPS and Science Act was signed into law thanks to President Biden, Vice President Harris, and House Democrats.

This legislation has delivered historic investments in American manufacturing, spurring the re-shoring of jobs and strengthening the nation’s domestic supply chain. Specifically, the CHIPS Act has:

  • Led to up to $100 billion in investment to create Micron’s chip factory in Clay, creating up to 50,000 jobs in NY-22.

  • Spurred the creation or expansion of 83 new semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain facilities across the country.

  • Attracted $447 billion in private investments across 25 states, boosting America’s chip manufacturing capacity while reducing our dependence on importing chips – including $123.3 billion in New York.

  • Created more than 56,000 good-paying jobs.

  • Expanded opportunities at more than 50 community colleges to help workers access these job opportunities.

Brandon Williams vehemently opposed these investments on the campaign trail — calling them a “corporate welfare package” — yet he tried to rewrite history and praise the act immediately after Micron announced its massive investment in NY-22.

In contrast, Senator John Mannion was the prime cosponsor for New York’s Green Chips legislation that helped bring Micron to Clay.

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“Brandon Williams can’t hide his record of opposing historic legislation like the CHIPS and Science Act that is creating good-paying jobs, investing in American manufacturing, and growing the middle class. Voters can see that he would rather block these opportunities for Central New Yorkers and the Mohawk Valley, and that’s why they’ll send Williams packing in November.”
