Three years ago, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ripped reproductive freedom from Ohio women.
Every single Republican running in the OH-09 primary would further threaten Ohio women’s reproductive health care – their anti-woman records are perfectly clear:
- Derek Merrin led the effort to pass Ohio’s extreme abortion ban, “shepherd[ing] the six-week abortion ban through the House” and subsequently into law in the wake of the Dobbs decision.
- Merrin cosponsored a bill that would imprison women for having an abortion, supporting a total abortion ban that could punish doctors and women with life in prison if they received or performed an abortion – with no exceptions for rape or incest.
- The bill Merrin cosponsored also threatens access to IVF and other fertility treatments.
- Josh Williams supported Ohio’s six week abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest – and specifically said he does not support exceptions for rape or incest.
- Williams introduced multiple bills that would make it harder for Ohio women to access reproductive health care.
- Williams called abortion “genocide.”
Reminder that 56% of voters in OH-09 voted to protect reproductive rights by overwhelmingly voting for Ohio’s Issue 1.
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Every single candidate in the OH-09 Republican primary would be a rubberstamp for Washington Republicans’ national abortion ban. Their dangerous agenda is out of step with OH-09 voters who overwhelmingly support a woman’s right to choose, which is why voters will reject them next November.”
