On the one-year anniversary of Michigan repealing its 1931 abortion ban, here’s a reminder that far-right extremist Tom Barrett supports the archaic law as a part of his war on women’s fundamental freedoms.
While Michiganders overwhelmingly demonstrated their support for reproductive rights in one of the largest ballot initiatives in state history, Barrett has defended his support for the near-total abortion ban – which subjected women, nurses, and doctors to prosecution for assisting in an abortion – saying, “I know I’m right.”
Barrett has called himself “100% PRO-LIFE – NO EXCEPTIONS” and most recently labeled the state’s constitutional amendment protecting reproductive rights “pretty extreme.” He also believes abortion access won’t motivate voters this year because, “my opponent is not a woman.”

“Tom Barrett has fully embraced draconian laws that aim to control women’s bodies. Michiganders protected their reproductive freedoms in 2022,and they will once again reject anti-abortion extremists like Barrett who would roll back those rights at the federal level.”
